I'm fundraising for Seafarer's Charity
I'm running the London Marathon on the 21st April 2024.
I'm doing all this to raise vital funds to support The Seafarers’ Charity – helping those who work at sea and their families. Having been a seafarer myself, I understand what it takes to be at sea away from home, family and friends for prolonged periods of time leading up to 10 or 11 months at a time. I've witnessed the toll it can take on the welfare and the mental wellbeing of my fellow seafarers. This charity rings close to home, every little helps!
According to a quick google search, a seafarer is a person who regularly travels by sea. For me a seafarer is more than that. As my cousin put it a seafarer is a "sea fairy," while she misunderstood what I had said to her, the words stuck with me and how correct she was. Most seafarers are key workers that are often taken for granted. Our everyday lives are touched by a seafarer, be it by transporting clothes, gadgets or other supplies from faraway lands. A seafarer truly is a "sea fairy" working away from their loved ones, often in less than desirable conditions.
