London Marathon: We’re on! 🙌🏃🇬🇧
I’ve been lucky enough to get an entry raising funds for The Seafarers’ Charity, whose donations and grants support Seafarers who risk their lives to protect and provide for our nations, and take care of their families during long periods at sea. We rely on Seafarers to transport over 90% of the things we take for granted, including food, fuel and medicines; to catch our fish and to protect our shores.
On a personal note - why The Seafarers’ Charity? I have lots of ocean going history in my family.
One of my Great Grandfathers served in the Royal Navy during World War One, after being injured in the line of duty he was honourably discharged.
Another Great Grandfather worked on the shores of the Thames for many years at the Limehouse Docks after his Army service during World War One. The marathon goes right through Limehouse which will be pretty special for me 🙏
My Grandfather served in the Royal Merchant Navy during World War Two. He was deployed all over the world and was awarded numerous medals for his service.
My little bro is keeping the family tradition going through his work and his offshore adventures with the team at @terra_australis 🦈⚓️
