LONDON TO PARIS FOR SAMARITANS 💚
Monday 17th AugLondon to Paris — and why I said "go on then" last minute!!
So… apparently I’m running from London to Paris (lol of course I am!)
2 weeks ago was “called up/voluntold by my best mate” as the team reserve for the Run2Paris relay, so this has all happened pretty bloody quickly. I’ve had very little time to process what I’ve signed up for, let alone prepare for it!
But the more I’ve thought about it, the more important it’s become as I am running for Samaritans — a charity that is incredibly close to my heart.
In my early 20s, I went through a very dark period. I was battling depression and suicidal thoughts, with trauma I hadn’t dealt with so much to say I recall the moment sat in Bristol in my car and knew I just had to talk to someone, anyone to help me process and make change.
I reached out to Samaritans.
Someone listened. No judgement. No fixing. Just listened.
I genuinely believe that support helped save my life.
Fast forward 20+ years and I’m a husband, a dad, a friend, a colleague, a coach… and now, apparently, someone running to Paris!
Life changes fast hey. Even when you can’t imagine that it ever will.
So yes, this run is going to hurt. There will be tired legs, questionable decisions and probably a fair amount of swearing and cramps.
But that feels like a pretty good price to pay for a charity that was there for me when I needed someone most.
If you can spare anything, I’d be incredibly grateful for a donation however small.
And if you can’t that’s ok, just make sure reading this prompts a check in with someone. Ask how they really are. Listen.
You never know what difference it might make.
